Headlines like these are becoming more frequent in Ohio. The public lands Ohioans use
for a variety of recreational activities are desperately threatened by a cash-strapped
Ohio government seeking to extract any wealth possible from natural resources residing
on and below these lands. Not since the oil, coal and iron ore booms of the late 1800s
thru the early 1900s has an attitude of such disregard and short sightedness existed
toward the value of land preservation. Pillaging the land for short economic gain
while expressing little regard for the long-term effects is a misguided management
policy at best. It doesn't have to be that way.
