A bear was sighted running around Athens:

Could be the same one, unless maybe the bear population is increasing or bears are venturing closer to populated areas for some other reason (food availability or other factor).

When the first Europeans landed in the Americas, they described it as one vast untouched wilderness. This was about the highest compliment they could pay to the Native people who had lived there for thousands of years. -Bill Mason

This is the third bear sighting this summer in southern ohio in the Athens/ Hocking area.  Seems like they are making a come back of sorts.  Hope people use some common sense if they are lucky enough to see one.  There was also a bear attack in Red River Gorge this summer; first documented case in the state of KY in its history.
